The mission of the ED Cell is to “Develop institutional mechanism to create entrepreneurial culture in science & technology institutions to develop technocrat entrepreneurs for generation of wealth and employment. ED Cell of Bhavnagar University activities all across the 8 districts of Saurashtra and Kutch region of Gujarat.

The Cell is headed by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. HC Trivedi and the policy of the Cell is decided by the advisory board. The constitution of the board is done by the guidelines of NSTEDB. The names of the board members are as under.

The Cell was established in the University since 1st April 2005. The Cell is full fledged working in the Department of Chemistry, Bhavnagar University – Bhavnagar. Prof. NC Desai, Professor of Chemistry was appointed as a Chief Project Leader to deal with the day to day activities of the Cell. The Cell has already appointed two core members for the smooth functioning.

Since 2005, the Cell has started an awareness program on Entrepreneurship for the students of the University. In the year 2005 the Cell has conducted 3 Entrepreneurship Awareness Camps and 348 students have participated in the camp. This camp has changed the mindset of the students from the traditional learning systems of the university. Looking to the active interaction with the entrepreneurs of Saurashtra region, Saurashtra Chamber of Commerce and Industries has jointly arranged an interactive session with the students of      ED Cell. This was a unique program and it was a first step to start the interaction with the students for the social and economic development of Bhavnagar district.

In 2006-07 the Cell has so far conducted 6 entrepreneurship awareness camps and this camp was organized in the Department of chemistry and at the campus of various affiliated colleges. In this camp 315 students have participated.

In order to tap the potentiality of the students of the University and its recognized Institutes the Cell has started STST program. This program is sanctioned by National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board, Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology, New Delhi. In the first phase of this program the Cell has identified disabled students from PNR society which is recognized by Bhavnagar University. Rs. 2.4 lacs were sanctioned by NSTEDB for conducting this program. In this program Microsoft Office, Photoshop, CorelDraw etc are included.
 
Disabled students are the most neglected in the society. In order to provide them entrepreneurial training the Cell has started a 8 week capsule course on “Computer Fundamentals”. After the successful completion of the training we are aim to provide them with a sufficient amount of an earning that will be useful for them to maintain their day to day requirements. The program is jointly conducted by ED Cell, Bhavnagar University and PNR Society, an NGO which is working for Relief and Rehabilitation of the Disabled. 20 students in the first batch have successfully completed the course.
