The Department was established in 1989. The Department has about thirty research papers published in national as well as international journals to its credit.

The department imparts instructions in Statistics at M.Sc. and Ph.D. levels. So far 02 students obtained their Ph.D. degrees from this Department.

Activity highlights

On the occasion of 25^th Silver Jubilee year of Bhavnagar University, Department of Statistics organized 24^th Annual Conference of Gujarat Statistical Association.

Around 150 delegates participated in this conference. During this conference-invited lectures, popular lectures and paper reading sessions were conducted. Professor C. G. Khatri memorial lecture was also arranged by Khatri memorial trust at the same time. Prof. B. K. Kale, former Head of Department of Statistics, Pune University delivered his lecture. In this Conference many current topics like 6– σ limits, Use of Stochastic Process in Banking, Use of Operation research in Traffic Problems, Advanced Sampling Technique and many such problems were discussed.

Two Major Research project was completed by Dr.K.Murlidharan in 2004.
